Singapore

Singapore is an wealthy island nation and a city-state with a population of 5.6 million.  It is a diverse country with official languages that include English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil.  (ethnic breakdown is 74% Chinese, 13% Malay, and 9% Indian.)  Religion includes 33% Buddhism, 18% Christianity, 14 % Islam.   It is a well developed country and is a global hub for finance, trade, education, healthcare, etc. It also has been voted to have one of the best international airports, Changi airport.

The following are popular tourist sites…

Gardens by the Bay have giant domed greenhouses, parks, gardens and the famous  Supertrees.  There are 18 of them, having a metal scaffolding and are covered with 160,000 plants.   They have the ability to harvest solar energy for lighting the trees at night and also serve as an exhaust for the conservatories.  The conservatories consist of two domes that house numerous plants.  It  has an other worldly quality.  I love plants to begin with and I ended up taking a lot of pics here. In the evening the lights come on with changing colors and music. In addition there is a walkway in the canopy of the trees.  From here u can also see other famous points such as Marina Bay Sands hotel and the Singapore Flyer (observation wheel).

Sentosa Island resort area with museum, aquarium, beaches, and shopping… I included the video of the jellyfish as I has never seen this color and the shape before.

Clarkes Quay with its malls, restaurants, and night life is a busy happening place in the evening… Unfortunately did not take too many pics of the food. A famous item is the chili crab.  They had all kinds of seafood that can be selected fresh from the tank but expect to pay $$$. No we did not eat that sea creature in the pic. (geoduck (gooey duck)). There is one pic of the shaved ice with green tea flavor and the other was mango/strawberry.  It was really refreshing.

Cityscapes, including a bit of China town and Little India.  Many of the buildings have greenery on balconies and rooftops.  Architect varies from colorful rowhouses to modern highrises.  It was clean and lined with neatly manicured trees.

Did not get to explore in as much detail as we would have liked due to time constraints…
